Most B2B SEO advice is B2C advice with "demo" swapped for "purchase." Here's a framework built for long sales cycles, small but valuable keywords, multiple decision-makers, and buyers who now ask AI for vendor shortlists.
The short answer
A strong B2B or SaaS SEO strategy has five parts: map the searches buyers make at each stage of the journey; build the pages closest to a buying decision first, like solution, comparison and integration pages; support them with expert content and clean technical foundations; earn mentions in the third-party content AI tools and buyers trust; and measure success by demos and pipeline, not traffic.

1. Map the buying journey to searches
B2B buyers search differently at each stage, and several people on a buying committee may search for different things.
Stage
Example searches
Page to build
Problem
"how to reduce employee onboarding time"
Expert guide that frames the problem
Solution
"onboarding software for mid-size companies"
Solution and use-case pages
Vendor comparison
"[competitor] alternatives," "[you] vs [competitor]"
Talk to your sales team. The questions prospects ask on calls are often the best keyword research you have.
2. Build bottom-of-funnel pages first
Many B2B companies start with a blog. It's usually better to start with the pages that sit closest to a demo request: solution, use-case, industry, comparison, integration and pricing pages. They often have small search volume, but the people searching are much closer to buying. Then build educational content that leads to them.
Prioritize by value, not volume: a search with 50 visits a month from qualified buyers can matter more than one with 5,000 visits from the wrong audience.
3. Get the technical foundation right
Make sure important content is in the HTML, not only rendered with JavaScript.
Keep marketing pages, docs and blog under a clear structure.
Plan redirects before any rebrand, replatform or migration.
Use internal links to connect related pages, so search engines and readers can follow the path from problem to solution.
As Head of SEO at State Affairs, a B2B SaaS platform, I saw monthly search impressions grow from about 3,000 to more than 1.4 million. Internal linking across related legislator and bill pages was one of the levers. Structure matters as much as content.
4. Earn mentions where buyers and AI tools look
Buyers increasingly ask AI tools for vendor shortlists, and those tools lean on third-party content. Two findings stand out:
In a Wix Studio AI Search Lab study of more than 1 million AI citations, 40% of commercial queries cited listicles.
In our own AI Visibility Index, the agencies that published "best agency" lists were frequently cited and also frequently recommended.
Practical moves: get included in credible review sites and industry roundups, contribute expert commentary to trade publications, publish honest comparisons of your own, and keep your company information consistent everywhere it appears.
5. Measure pipeline, not traffic
Define demo requests, trials and contact forms as key events in GA4.
Track organic-sourced and organic-influenced pipeline in your CRM.
Report rankings for the searches buyers actually make, not vanity keywords.
Track AI visibility with repeated checks across tools, since answers vary from one run to the next.
A 90-day starting plan
Weeks 1–2: technical audit, analytics setup, and interviews with sales about buyer questions.
Weeks 3–6: fix critical technical issues; build or improve the top solution and comparison pages.
Weeks 7–10: publish two or three expert guides tied to those pages; start outreach for mentions.
Weeks 11–13: review rankings, AI visibility and pipeline; set the next quarter's priorities.
A B2B SEO strategy is a plan for earning organic visibility with the people who research and buy business products and services. It maps the searches buyers make at each stage, decides which pages to build and in what order, and measures success by demos, pipeline and revenue rather than traffic alone.
How is SaaS SEO strategy different?
SaaS companies usually need more comparison, alternatives, integration and use-case pages, more attention to technical issues like JavaScript rendering and app subdomains, and a plan for keeping SEO intact through frequent product and site changes.
Should B2B companies target low-volume keywords?
Often, yes. A search with 50 monthly visits from the right buyers can be worth more than one with 5,000 visits from the wrong audience. Prioritize by buyer intent and fit, not volume alone.
How does AI search change B2B SEO?
Buyers increasingly ask AI tools for vendor shortlists. Those answers draw heavily on comparison content and third-party mentions: one 2026 study found 40% of commercial queries in AI tools cited listicles. B2B companies need accurate, credible coverage beyond their own website.
